Research Areas

Our research addresses philosophical and institutional questions raised by emerging technology and contemporary governance. The following areas guide our work and future collaborations.

Philosophy & Ethics of Technology

We examine normative and conceptual questions arising from technological systems, including:

  • Existential risks and ethical challenges of advanced AI systems, including accountability for long-term, large-scale impacts
  • Fairness, bias, and equality in data-driven systems
  • Human agency and autonomy in digitally mediated environments
  • The moral limits of technological intervention

Public Policy & Governance

This area connects philosophical analysis with practical questions of law and policy formation. We analyze institutional and regulatory responses to emerging technologies, with attention to:

  • Democratic legitimacy and public oversight
  • Regulatory design and institutional accountability
  • Risk, precaution, and long-term governance, especially as they relate to AI and other transformative technologies.
  • The role of expertise in public decision-making

Institutions and Democracy

This area of research examines how institutional design can sustain democratic norms under conditions of technological transformation. We study, in particular:

  • The relationship between private technological power and public authority
  • The transformation of administrative and legal processes
  • The design of institutions capable of adapting to rapid technological change
